Tips & Advice
- written by LIF Team
Among the iconic luxury handbags that have been around for decades (Chanel Classic Flap bag, Hermes Birkin etc.), a new “classic” has emerged in recent years – Saint Laurent’s Sac de Jour. First launched in 2013 by Saint Laurent mastermind Hedi Slimane, the Sac de Jour has become the pièce de résistance of Saint Laurent’s handbag collection since.
Literally translating to “bag of the day”, the Sac de Jour can be more aptly described as the bag of the last few years. Like all “it” bags, the Sac de Jour has amassed a huge celebrity following, with Gigi Hadid, Rachel Zoe and Nicole Ritchie often seen touting various versions of the Sac de Jour.
So where does the appeal lie? We’ve compiled the 5 top reasons to invest in a Sac de Jour (as if you really need them!):
1. CLASSIC YET MODERN
Few handbags have that ultra-classic feel without being boring, and that’s just what the Sac de Jour manages to do. If that’s not enough variety for you, there are also over 15 colours to choose from. (image left via ysl.com)

For the former group, the nano or the baby Sac de Jour makes a pretty cute option. For the latter group like us, the medium or even the large is the preferred option. (image right via purseblog.com)
4. SAC DE JOUR VS THE BIRKIN
The Sac de Jour has been compared to the Godmother of Class, the Birkin, and for many has come up trumps. The Sac de Jour is much easier to get in and out of than the Birkin and is generally considered to be more practical and useable. Not to mention that it’s price tag is about $10k less than the Birkin…
5. PRICE TAG
When compared to luxury handbags of a similar size, the Sac de Jour is quite reasonably priced comparatively speaking. For example, a Celine Luggage Tote Nano is approximately $2,800 brand new whereas the Sac de Jour Nano is around $2,200. Or even less pre-owned…
